Liudu Danger Trail Introduction
The Baximon Stream Scenic Trail located at the border of Tai'an and Lioudou in Qiduz District features a section known as the Lioudou Dangerous Ditch Scenic Trail. This trail is approximately 350 meters in length, beginning at the Baximon Stream entrance in Tai'an and ending beside the Cifeng Temple in Lioudou. It is said that during the Qing Dynasty, local militia gathered above the Dangerous Ditch to gain the upper hand against the Dutch, causing significant casualties among them. In the 22nd year of Emperor Jiaqing's reign (1817), the Yu family from Anxi settled in Lioudou and established two irrigation channels, "Upper Ditch" and "Lower Ditch," through the perilous cliffs. To commemorate this event, they named it the Dangerous Ditch, which has been passed down to this day. The Dangerous Ditch is a natural wonder where the Keelung River winds around, resembling the Jiuqu Stream in Wuyi Mountains, Fujian, and is often referred to as the "Little Wuyi Mountain." Visitors are amazed and impressed by this crucial waterway. Additionally, the lower area of the Keelung River, known as "Turtle Pond," is home to many freshwater turtles, showcasing rich biodiversity. The trail constructed with wooden sleepers features excellent facilities, allowing for leisurely walks or cycling while enjoying the scenery. Along the way, one can see the renowned Dingzun Fude Temple and the century-old Couple Tree, as well as stunning views of the Keelung River, immersing visitors in the strong local atmosphere of Qiduz. At the cliff where the border of the two villages meets, the words "Lioudou Dangerous Ditch" are carved in large red letters, exuding a powerful presence. A small platform nearby allows visitors to view the entire inscription on the stone wall. This trail not only affords beautiful vistas of the Keelung River but also provides an excellent opportunity to learn about local culture and history as well as the past river development, making it a suitable place for family outings, relaxation, sports, and fitness.
