National Museum of Prehistory Nankang Archaeology Museum Introduction
Since its inception in 1995, this site has revealed a 5,000-year-old ancient civilization. The National Science Council of the Executive Yuan commissioned the Academia Sinica and the National Museum of Prehistory to conduct surveys and excavations, and so far, over 58 sites have been discovered. The prehistoric culture buried here dates back approximately 5,000 years at its earliest and about 300 years at its latest. This area currently has the highest density of archaeological sites, the most complete cultural strata, and the largest excavation area in Taiwan. In order to preserve, study, and showcase the results of the salvage excavations due to development, through joint efforts, the National Taiwan Museum of Prehistory Nan-k'o Archaeological Museum has been established, covering an area of about 2.42 hectares, with a floor area of 19,000 square meters.
