Wanglongpi Introduction
Wanglong Pond, located in Zhenshan Village, Yuanshan Township, Yilan County, is a natural lake surrounded by mountains on three sides and situated behind Hushan Elementary School. Also known as Soft Pond, this lake is believed to have been formed naturally over a hundred years ago due to landslides from mountain floods. Covering an area of approximately four to five hectares, it has an elongated shape, and its water level is closely linked to rainfall. The name of the lake is derived from the local proverb, "The wind comes from the tiger, the clouds come from the dragon," which reflects the elders' prayers for abundant rain and the health of the residents. For a long time, Wanglong Pond has been an important water source for the residents of Yuanshan Township, supporting both daily life and agricultural irrigation, while embodying the community's reverence and gratitude towards nature.
