Zhubei Dongping Community Center Introduction
Dongping Wenlitang is a preserved building located in the Zhubei High-Speed Rail Specific Area, and it served as the residence of the Lin family. During the high-speed rail acquisition, the building was kept because it was intact and unique, and it was registered as a historic building in 2007. The Dongping Wenlitang was constructed in 1934, originally designed as a one-hall, one-section layout, and in 1939, it was expanded to its current one-hall, three-section structure. After the family split in 1949, further modifications were made, resulting in its present size. The building features a roof design resembling the “Five Tigers Descending the Mountain,” and is surrounded by a wall that separates the inside from the outside. Within the courtyard, there are two distinctive osmanthus trees. In front of the building, there was originally a large area of rice drying ground, serving as a plaza for drying rice, indicating the family’s considerable rice production at the time. After the high-speed rail acquisition, the area became a children's park, preserving the building while the plaza was developed into road land, and the surrounding environment has changed completely, replaced by tall buildings. The preservation of this traditional architecture serves as a testament to the historical development of the neighborhood.
