Dahu Kou Elementary School Ruins Introduction

The Dahu-Kou Public School was established in 1906 (Meiji 39) and was the only educational institution in the Hukou and Xinfeng areas at that time. It served as the cradle of talent development for both Hukou and Xinfeng. The current Xinhu Elementary School, Hukou Elementary School, Xinfeng Elementary School, and Fenggang Elementary School have all branched out from it, making it a significant ancestor institution. Unfortunately, when the school was closed in 1935 (Showa 10), the campus was not properly preserved, and after decades of wear and tear, the original appearance of the school buildings was lost. Fortunately, two brick columns of the school gate still stand as a testament to its history. Mr. Chen Sen-Mao and other local residents recognized the importance of preserving historical monuments and took action by donating funds to purchase 47 ping of the original school site, which was jointly owned by 12 landowners, and prepared to donate this land to the local government. This effort aims to restore the former appearance of the Dahu-Kou Public School for future generations.
