Tuku Township Farmers' Association Octagonal Warehouse Introduction
The "Octagonal Seed Warehouse" of the Tuku Township Farmers' Association, commonly known as the "Octagonal Warehouse," was completed on November 30, 1961. This octagonal concrete brick building stands in the heart of Yunlin County, an area formerly known as "Tuku," which is rich in agricultural resources. Currently, there are only a few octagonal warehouses left in Taiwan, with three known to remain in Yunlin; of these, only the one in Tuku Township is actively utilized, while the others are mostly unused, possessing significant industrial, cultural, and historical value. The eight sides of the octagonal warehouse are equipped with louvered windows, and there are ventilation holes at the bottom of the walls. Stairs on both sides of the entrance lead to a mezzanine for easier handling of seeds stored in the warehouse. The main entrance faces south, featuring ventilated high windows, with ventilation holes at the bottom of the walls. The internal seed storage walls are first lined with sugarcane boards and then covered with sheet metal, all to ensure ventilation, dryness, insulation, and moisture prevention for the proper preservation of agricultural seeds. The octagonal architectural design offers excellent seismic resistance, good ventilation and lighting, and features the shortest and fastest internal circulation routes, with a structure that is solid and durable, resembling a circular form.
