Yue Mei Suspension Bridge Introduction
The Yuemei Suspension Bridge, located in Tongjing Village, Sanwan Township, was built in 1929. It originally served as a vital route between Nanzhuang and Sanwan leading to Toufen. With a steel beam structure, the bridge's surface is 4 meters wide and approximately 150 meters long, featuring tracks for handcarts used to transport coal. At that time, it was a crucial passageway for traffic on both sides of the river. After the completion of the Xihe Reservoir and the Emei Bridge in 1951, the Yuemei Suspension Bridge was retired from service, leaving only the bridgehead and piers standing on both sides. Later, a small steel bridge section was constructed at the bridgehead, supported by struts and the old piers, extending out into a transparent glass bridge surface, creating a viewing platform to overlook the riverside scenery. From the bridge, visitors can enjoy the natural landscape of the river both upstream and downstream. The glass bridge surface allows one to see the gently flowing Emei Creek below, with occasional sightings of white herons flying by, making for a serene and refreshing experience.
