Cloud Gate Theater Introduction
The internationally renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan experienced a devastating fire in 2008 that destroyed its rehearsal venue, a metal shed rented in Bali. Subsequently, through a collaboration with the New Taipei City government, a new Cloud Gate Theater was established at the former site of the Central Broadcasting System's Tamsui branch, integrating the existing architecture. It officially opened for performances on April 24, 2015. Located between the Tamsui Golf Course and the Huwei Fort, the Cloud Gate Theater offers a view of Guanyin Mountain and the Tamsui River estuary. The building, with its light green glass curtain, reflects the surrounding tall trees and blends into the serene green landscape. The theater regularly hosts ticketed public performances, which can be checked online, and also offers guided tours of the grounds that require prior phone reservations. Additionally, there are many art installations within the complex, featuring internationally acclaimed works from sculptor Ju Ming's “Local Series,” “Tai Chi Series,” and “Human Series.” The large tree bookshop within the grounds combines a bookstore and café, allowing visitors to enjoy carefully curated selections from Cloud Gate, as well as exclusive cultural and creative products inspired by the lives of dancers. Guests can also savor hand-brewed coffee and exclusively crafted sun beer. Furthermore, the Flower Language Restaurant by the lotus pond serves the best soup dumplings, exquisite new tea creations, and the world-famous oolong pearl milk tea, awaiting your tasting. The main building of Cloud Gate Theater is remarkably beautiful, with its light green glass curtain reflecting the surrounding tall trees, emphasizing both quality and environmental sustainability. It is recommended to incorporate the glass glowing with green light and the blue sky when taking photos.
