Xinying Jie'an Temple Introduction

Xinying Jiaan Temple, dedicated to Baosheng Dadi, is the first temple in the Xinying area (the founding temple of Kaiji Village), commonly referred to by locals as "the Grand Temple." According to legend, the initial establishment of the temple dates back to the Ming Yongli period when a man surnamed Hsiao from Budai, Chiayi passed through this area and stopped for a rest. Baosheng Dadi appeared in his dreams, instructing him to go to Quanzhou, Tong'an, Baijiao Township (the hometown of Baosheng Dadi) to invite the deity to Taiwan. Later, the local people welcomed the deity from the Ziguang Temple in Tong'an, Baijiao Township, and set up a straw hut for worship. It wasn't until the 20th year of the Daoguang period in the Qing Dynasty (1840) that a formal temple was established, as the population in the Xinying area had substantially increased.
