Taikang Green Tunnel Introduction

Yihshih Road, extending about 4.5 kilometers from the front of Liuying Chi Mei Hospital towards Taikang and Guoyi, is lined with dense, towering mango trees, creating a tunnel-like effect. Each tree is approximately 50 years old. During the Japanese colonial period, this tree-lined avenue was known as "Military Road." According to legend, the Japanese army, fearing airstrikes from the Allied forces, mandated that each household plant five trees by the road, resulting in around 700 trees in total. Later, this road was named Yihshih Road to commemorate the anti-communist martyrs who returned from the Korean War. The lush greenery, with golden sunlight filtering through the gaps in the leaves, creates different visual effects at morning, noon, and dusk. For the locals, the experience of picking wild mangoes along this rural road in their childhood is a shared memory.
