Meishan Visitor Center Introduction
Meishan Visitor Center is located next to Taiwan Route 20, along the South Cross-Island Highway. It sits at the northernmost mountainous area of Taoyuan District and serves as the gateway to the Yushan National Park management area. It is the only service station along the South Cross-Island Highway. Nearby, there are facilities such as the Meishan sales department and a camping area that provide dining and relaxation for visitors. The exterior of the visitor center is constructed with slate in the style of the Bunun tribe, harmonizing well with the surrounding landscape. Inside, there is information about the Taiwan Black Bear, as well as commemorative stamps of its paw prints, allowing visitors to learn more about Taiwan's natural ecology while resting. Additionally, visitors can take a stroll to the Bunun Cultural Exhibit Center next to the visitor center, where rich and engaging exhibitions provide insights into Bunun history, culture, traditional rituals, and human stories. In front of the visitor center, there is also an ecological garden and trail focused on indigenous plants. The garden features informational displays that help travelers understand Taiwan's native species and folk plants. Around January each year, the blooming of white plums makes this area a great spot for winter plum blossom viewing. Near Meishan, there are two suspension bridges, several trails, and natural attractions such as Tianchi, the cypress valley, and Meilan Forest Road. The rich plant and animal ecology along the way, combined with the expansive views, attract countless travelers. Hiking in the majestic mountains, birdwatching, or watching the sea of clouds rushing through the valleys offers an unparalleled experience. During the winter plum blossom season, the mountains are covered with blooming plums like a sea of snow, creating a romantic and fragrant atmosphere that feels like a heavenly paradise, making it hard for visitors to leave.
