Meishan Visitor Center Introduction
Meishan Visitor Center is located next to Provincial Highway 20 on the Nanheng Highway, at the northernmost mountainous area of the Taoyuan District, serving as the gateway to the Yushan National Park management area. It is the only service station along the Nanheng Highway, with nearby facilities including the Meishan Sales Center and camping areas that provide food and recreation for visitors. The exterior of the visitor center is constructed with slate in the style of the Bunun tribe, harmoniously blending with the surrounding landscape. Inside, there are educational displays about the Formosan black bear, including commemorative stamps of its paw prints, allowing visitors to learn more about Taiwan's natural ecology while they rest. Guests can also take a walk to the Bunun Cultural Exhibit Center beside the visitor center, where rich and engaging exhibitions provide insights into the history, culture, traditional rituals, and stories of the Bunun tribe. In front of the visitor center, there is an ecological garden and trail featuring native plants, with informative signs to help travelers understand Taiwan's indigenous species and folk plants. In January each year, the white plums begin to bloom, making it a great place for winter plum-viewing. Nearby Meishan, there are two suspension bridges, multiple trails, and natural attractions such as Tianchi, Cypresses Valley, and Meilan Forest Road, with an abundance of flora and fauna along the way and expansive views that attract countless travelers. Trekking, bird watching, or observing the rolling sea of clouds in the valleys among the magnificent mountains is a supreme enjoyment in life. During the winter plum blossom season each year, the mountains are blanketed with blooming plums resembling a sea of snow, and their romantic fragrance creates an otherworldly ambiance that leaves visitors enchanted.
