Meishan Visitor Center Introduction
Meishan Visitor Center is located next to Provincial Highway 20 on the southern cross-island highway, at the northernmost mountainous area of Taoyuan District. It serves as the gateway to the Yushan National Park management area and is the only service station on the southern cross-island highway. Nearby facilities include the Meishan sales department and camping areas that provide food and rest for visitors. The exterior of the visitor center is constructed with slate in the style of the Bunun tribe, harmoniously blending with the surrounding scenery. Inside, there are informative displays about the Formosan black bear, offering commemorative stamps of the bear's footprints, allowing visitors to learn more about Taiwan's natural ecology while taking a break. Additionally, visitors can stroll over to the Bunun Cultural Exhibition Center next to the visitor center, where rich and engaging exhibits provide deeper insights into Bunun history, culture, traditional rituals, and human stories. In front of the visitor center is an ecological garden focused on native plants and a walking trail, equipped with explanatory signs to help travelers recognize Taiwan's indigenous species and folk plants. In January each year, the blooming white plums create a beautiful winter plum viewing spot. Nearby Meishan, there are two suspension bridges, multiple trails, and natural attractions such as Tianchi, Kuigu Valley, and Meilan Forest Road, which showcase rich plant and animal ecology along with expansive views, attracting countless travelers. Hiking, birdwatching, or enjoying the sea of clouds in the valleys amidst the magnificent mountains is one of life's great pleasures. During the winter plum blossom season, the mountains are covered with blooming plums resembling a sea of snow, and the romantic fragrance creates an ethereal experience that leaves people wanting to linger.
