Meishan Visitor Center Introduction
Meishan Visitor Center is located next to Taiwan Highway 20, at the northernmost mountainous area of the Taoyuan District and serves as the gateway to Yushan National Park's management area. It is the only service station along the Southern Cross-Island Highway. Nearby, there is a Meishan shop and a camping area that provides food and leisure for visitors. The exterior of the visitor center is constructed with slate reminiscent of the Bunun people, harmonizing well with the surrounding scenery. Inside, there are small exhibits related to the Formosan black bear, including commemorative stamps of its footprints, allowing visitors to rest while gaining a deeper understanding of Taiwan's natural ecology. Visitors can also stroll to the Bunun Cultural Relics Exhibition Center next to the visitor center, which features rich and engaging exhibitions that delve into Bunun history, cultural rituals, and human stories. In front of the visitor center, there is an ecological garden primarily featuring indigenous plants and a trail. The ecological garden has informative signs that help travelers learn about Taiwan's native species and folk plants. Around January each year, the blooming white plums make it a great spot for winter plum blossom viewing. Nearby Meishan, there are two suspension bridges, multiple trails, and natural landscapes like the Tianchi (Heavenly Pool), Hinoki Valley, and Meilan Forest Road, all rich in diverse flora and fauna and offering expansive views that attract countless travelers. Hiking, birdwatching, or enjoying the sea of clouds rushing through the valleys in the majestic mountains is a supreme pleasure. During the winter plum blossom season, the mountains are covered with blooming plums resembling a sea of snow, creating a romantically fragrant scene that feels like a fairyland, making it hard for visitors to leave.
