Taiwan Craft Home - Pottery Workshop Introduction
Hsu Tsung-Huan was born in 1965 in Dacun, Changhua. He creates ceramic art that not only serves functional purposes but also conveys many internal ideas and thoughts through his work. Each piece of his hand-built pottery is unique and brimming with the rustic charm of traditional Taiwanese countryside life, serving as a recollection of childhood memories. Elements such as Casuarina trees, fields of peanuts, frogs in ditches, and fallen logs on the roadside are vividly incorporated into his ceramic creations. In 2003, he was awarded the Hwai-Xi Award in the 4th Hwai-Xi Art Exhibition in the sculpture category, recognized by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute as a “Taiwan Craft Home” in 2007, named one of Changhua County’s Hundred-Year Hundred Talents in 2011, won the Bronze Award in the 4th Ceramic Golden Pot Award in 2012, and received the “2014 Global Life Love Medal” from the Chow Tsu-Kwan Culture and Education Foundation in 2014. The陶園 (Ceramic Garden) workshop was established in the 1980s, creating a space in this rural area for appreciating ceramics, playing with clay, tea tasting, and passing on artistic skills. Through the sculpting of clay, he expresses a connection to the Earth, allowing his pots to exude not just functionality and playfulness but also warmth.
