Due to the current mechanization of agriculture in Taiwan, the use of machines like agricultural tractors and transport vehicles has gradually replaced traditional oxen. The social value of oxen has significantly diminished, and the importance of livestock markets and cattle dealers has correspondingly declined. The Beigang Livestock Market is one of the only two remaining livestock markets in Taiwan, located beside the Beigang River, west of the Beigang Bridge. It opens early in the morning on the 3rd, 6th, and 9th of each lunar month and closes at noon. In the past, the transaction volume reached as high as a thousand heads, though nowadays, there are few cattle bought and sold. Still, it remains a favorite bustling market for elderly farmers and tourists in the Yunlin and Chiayi area, selling daily necessities, snacks, artistic products, and second-hand electrical tools.

Beigang Bull Market Introduction

Due to the mechanization of farming in Taiwan, such as the use of mechanical tillers and freight vehicles, traditional farming with oxen has gradually been replaced. The social value of oxen has significantly diminished, and thus the importance of cow markets and cow traders has also lessened. The Beigang Cattle Market is one of the last two remaining cattle markets in Taiwan, located by the Beigang River, on the west side of the Beigang Bridge. It opens early in the morning on the 3rd, 6th, and 9th days of the lunar calendar and closes at noon. In the past, the highest trading volume reached as many as a thousand heads of cattle. Although there are now fewer cattle transactions, the market remains a favorite for local farmers and tourists alike to leisurely browse, offering daily necessities, snacks, arts and crafts, and second-hand electrical tools.
