Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Shuijiao Village Introduction
Shu Zai Jiao Catholic Church, the first Catholic church in Yunlin, is located on the southern bank of the Zhuoshui River. During the Guangxu period, the believers of the Shu Zai Jiao settlement invited Father Gabor Halsey from the Luochu Catholic Church to preach here, renting a simple bamboo hut as a temporary preaching site, marking the beginning of its establishment and the origin of Catholicism in Yunlin County. The church was built during the Qing Dynasty under the Guangxu reign and was reconstructed into a brick structure in the 19th year of the Republic of China. The octagonal roof has a unique flavor.
