St. Joseph's Church in Shujiajiao Introduction
The first Catholic church in Yunlin, Shujiakou Catholic Church, is located on the southern bank of the Zhuoshui River. During the Guangxu era, the faithful of the Shujiakou settlement invited Father Gao Xilong from the Luocuo Catholic Church to come here to preach, renting a simple bamboo hut as a temporary place of worship, marking the beginning of the establishment of the church and the spread of Catholicism in Yunlin County. Shujiakou Catholic Church is the first Catholic church in the county, built during the Qing Guangxu era and later converted to a brick structure in the 19th year of the Republic of China.
