Yongkang Street Introduction
Yongkang Street is a famous food street located on Section 2, Xinyi Road in the Daan District of Taipei, Taiwan. It runs generally north-south, situated between Jinshan South Road and Xinsheng South Road, starting from Xinyi Road in the north to Heping East Road in the south. The section north of the intersection with Aiguo East Road is a two-way street, while the southern part is a one-way street. It is renowned for the many famous restaurants and eateries nestled between the alleys. Yongkang Street is considered the birthplace of Taipei’s alley culture and is a culinary highlight for tourists, originally famous for traditional foods such as Din Tai Fung's xiaolongbao and Hsiu-Lan Restaurant. Long-established restaurants embodying the health food trend, which combine the features of tea houses and vegetarian restaurants, have been in operation for over 20 years, featuring striking decor, classical music, and a leisurely ambiance. Additionally, there are many gathering places favored by literary figures, including the Yatang Tea House, which emphasizes authentic Taiwanese tea culture, along with cafes and teahouses in the Kangqinglong area today. The small shop owners in these alleys have a unique business model, eager to engage in conversations and share the cultural aesthetics born out of life. The Yongkang Street business district centers around Yongkang Park, encompassing Yongkang Street, Lishui Street, parts of Jinhua Street, and shops near Xinyi Road. Initially, the district gathered many Taiwanese snack and restaurant options and gradually began to host numerous international cuisine restaurants, distinctively styled cafes, and boutique shops. Due to its proximity to Daan Forest Park and the abundance of famous culinary offerings, it often attracts large crowds during the evenings and on holidays.
