Kuanhsi Dong'an Bridge Introduction
The Dong'an Bridge, which spans the Niulan River, is a five-arch stone arch bridge that combines both structural integrity and aesthetic beauty. Formerly known as the "Cai Feng Bridge," it was constructed in 1933 (Showa 8) and serves as an important thoroughfare connecting the Kuanxi district and Dong'an Village. Originally, Dong'an Bridge was merely a wooden temporary bridge, which was often destroyed by mountain floods, leading to disrupted transportation. Local residents advocated for the construction of a new bridge, with local gentry hiring a Japanese engineer for the design. Workers were hired to collect intricately textured stones from the Jinshan area, which were manually transported to the site and built under the supervision of the renowned local stonemason Li Zhen. The bridge has been in use for decades and remains intact, showcasing the exceptional engineering skills and quality of construction.
