Dongwo Stream Firefly Ecological Area Introduction
Every year, April and May are the seasons when the Tung blossoms bloom and fireflies appear in large numbers, making it the best time to observe fireflies. Thousands of sparkling little sprites come out in force, fluttering comfortably among the bushes, while fireflies flicker along the trails, resembling stars in the sky! Located near the Neiwan Old Street, the Dongwo Creek Firefly Ecological Area allows visitors to stroll through the old street in the afternoon, then enjoy the spectacle of dancing fireflies in the evening, without needing to venture deep into the mountains—it's perfect for bringing children along. In Hengshan Township, thanks to efforts by the local government in restoring and protecting the area, the serene environment with low light pollution is ideal for firefly habitation. Within the mountainous region, you can see glowing black-winged fireflies and hear the sounds of insects. The peak time for firefly appearances is typically between 7 PM and 8 PM each night, and they thrive in warm, humid weather, making rainy nights the best for witnessing their graceful flights.
