Zhubei Tongde Temple Introduction
Donghai Li in Zhubei was originally called Donghai Cave. Before the flood control works were implemented on the Touqian River, the river overflowed and branched out, creating a large area of ponds to the southwest of "Donghai," with the water abundant and vast like the sea. The residents of the Liujia administrative center at that time were numerous, and this pond was located to the east of Liujia, leading the locals to refer to it as "Donghai Cave," hence its name. It was developed around the Qianlong period, and the ancestors of the Zheng family originally hailed from Raoping, Guangdong. After coming to Taiwan, they developed the areas of Zhubei and Xionglin. They established a ancestral hall in the mountainous area of Xionglin. The Xingyang Hall was built around the first year of the Taisho period, and the Zheng family's ancestors operated a rice mill, becoming a prominent family in the area. With their economic capacity allowed, they constructed a residence featuring four horizontal sections, using carefully chosen materials and craftsmanship, making it a representative mansion of the locality.
