Zhudong Canal Introduction
Zhudong Canal is the largest and most extensive irrigation project in the history of Zhudong's development. After the completion of the canal, hundreds of acres of wasteland were transformed into fertile fields, significantly contributing to the agricultural development of the Er and San Chongpu areas in Zhudong Township. It also played a crucial role in the development of the Science Park today, providing essential water supply. Originally designed for irrigation, the Zhudong Canal sources its water from the upper Pingxi River via the Zaoshupu in Ruifeng Village. Initially, it served only for irrigation; however, due to the high demand for water in Hsinchu and Zhudong and the establishment of the Hsinchu Science Park, which requires a substantial daily water supply, the Baoshan Reservoir was built, with a major water source drawn from the Zhudong Canal. This demonstrates the foresight of the ancestors in planning the Zhudong Canal, which not only supplies irrigation water today but also encompasses domestic and industrial water needs, greatly benefiting Zhudong.
