Ershui Township Liao Wenhe Puppet Theater Introduction
Mr. Liao Wen-He began playing puppetry at a young age. His puppets are larger than usual, and the performances are vivid and intricate. With well-crafted storylines, he can change his voice to portray over twenty different characters, attracting large crowds every performance. He has also been invited to participate in overseas ticketed shows, bringing Taiwan's traditional art to the international stage. The Liao Wen-He Puppetry Troupe was established in the 65th year of the Republic of China. In the past, when television was not widely developed, theater troupes across Taiwan could attract audiences by performing in theaters or outdoor stages. However, as television programs gained popularity, watching TV gradually became the main leisure activity for the public, leading to a significant decline in puppetry audiences. Liao Wen-He did not succumb to the decline of puppetry; instead, he invested heavily to reform the art form, expanding the stage and purchasing new performance equipment. He is dedicated to puppetry performance art, featuring traditional small wooden puppets and also creating the largest celestial puppets in the country, along with the biggest stage setups, including a 100-foot wide set, constantly experimenting with ways to innovate puppetry performances.
