Banxia Bay Introduction
Banshiahai Bay is a tranquil beach along the Suhua Highway, a hidden gem with mountain and ocean views without the crowds. Visitors can enjoy kayaking or chasing trains here, making it a secret beach destination for experiencing the ocean in Hualien. Banshiahai Bay is the beach closest to the Qingshui Cliff, located at the 178.3K mark of the Suhua Highway, accessed by turning right at the intersection shown in the image. The recent popularity of kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding allows travelers to explore the Pacific Ocean’s blue waters from multiple perspectives, getting a closer and more diverse appreciation for Taiwan's stunning scenery, particularly the Qingshui Cliff. Legend has it that this magnificent and steep Qingshui Cliff earned its name from Portuguese sailors in 1542, who, while on a journey to Japan, passed by an uncharted island and gasped at the lush forest, exclaiming "Ilha Formosa," which means beautiful island; this island was marked as FORMOSA in the Western world.
