Ersha Bay Fort Introduction
- Attraction Introduction - The history of Ersha Bay Fort dates back to after the Sino-French War, built by Liu Ming-chuan. It was one of the important strongholds protecting the inner harbor of Keelung Port at that time. The fort is built on a hill, offering a panoramic view of the harbor, not only showcasing stunning scenery but also evoking imagination and respect for the wars of the past. At the entrance of the military camp, there is an inscription that reads "Ocean Gate's Natural Barrier" (海門天險). - Attraction Features - Stepping into the fort area feels like walking through a time tunnel to the past. Remnants of the military camp, gun emplacements, and bunkers stand quietly among the mountains and forests, exuding a tranquil atmosphere that comes from historical sedimentation. As you walk along the shaded path, the rich ecology around you often reveals fluttering butterflies and agile squirrels, prompting you to unconsciously slow your pace. At the high point, the panoramic view of Keelung Harbor is fully revealed; the vast landscape contrasts sharply with the surrounding tranquility. Gazing at the sea and the slowly sailing vessels, it seems time itself slows down, making it a worthy experience to feel in person. - Recommended Activities - You can visit Ersha Bay Fort along with the fortress command center and Shawan Historical and Cultural Park located at the foot of the hill, and then explore the Military Affairs Park (currently the only preserved 8-inch Armstrong breech-loading gun from the late Qing Dynasty in the country).
