Qing-French War Memorial Park Introduction

- Attraction Introduction - This place was established to commemorate the French soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Sino-French War in 1884. Although the park is small, stepping inside feels like entering a time tunnel. The mildly salty sea breeze and surrounding greenery slow your pace, seemingly allowing you to sense the tension of those wartime days. This is not just a tourist spot, but a chapter of Taiwan's story, making it a perfect place for a quiet stroll and reflection. - Attraction Features - Entering the Sino-French War Memorial Park feels like traversing a time tunnel, immersing oneself in the sediment of that history. During the Sino-French War, Keelung served as a major battleground where fierce fighting occurred between French forces and Liu Ming-chuan's army, resulting in significant casualties. The French buried their fallen soldiers on site after the Battle of Dasha Bay, and during the Japanese occupation, graves from Penghu and Dasha Bay were relocated here. The monuments and ancient graves stand silently, documenting the tumultuous years experienced by this port city. Today, the park's tranquil environment and lush greenery provide a reflective space amid this history and peace. - Recommended Surroundings - If time permits, it is recommended to explore the surrounding cultural assets along Zhongzheng Road, such as the Ershawan Fort, the Commander’s Residence of the Keelung Fortress, and the Mayor's Residence, among others, weaving together the historical threads from the Sino-French War, the Japanese occupation, to the early post-war period. A complete walk feels like reading a condensed modern history of Northern Taiwan.
