Warm East Canyon (Dalan Ancient Trail TK2-2) Introduction

- Attraction Features - Nuandong Canyon is a secret spot that combines natural beauty with historical culture. It starts from Nuanwan along the Danshui-Lan Highway, ascending from the parking area along the Dongshi Stream, passing by Dajing Leisure Farm, and ultimately reaching the old Nuandong Trail entrance. The total length is about 2.2 kilometers, and the local deity shrines along the way serve as testament to the ancestral beliefs. The canyon retains its natural ecological characteristics, featuring unique sliding waterfalls that embody both primitive beauty and the power of water sources. The magnificent canyon terrain can be admired from the walking trails, which are designed with both large and small loops—one extending along the creek and the other along the cliffs. There are also pavilions for viewing the waterfalls and canyon scenery. In 2014, Keelung's Nuandong Canyon was designated as an international friendship trail in partnership with the Tohoku region's Tome route in Miyagi, Japan. - Recommended Activities - If you want to explore Keelung's natural scenery and historical cultural sites, Nuandong Canyon is an excellent choice. Venture deep along the trails to feel the historical footprints of the old Danshui Ancient Trail, appreciate the unique sliding waterfall formations in the canyon, and experience the power and tranquility of nature while enjoying the embrace of the mountains. Wander in the clear, cool stream waters, and don’t forget sunscreen and suitable hiking shoes. Step briskly and immerse yourself in the pristine beauty of Nuandong Canyon! - Nearby Recommendations - When planning a visit to Nuandong Canyon, it is recommended to include Labobo Village and Dajing Leisure Farm in your itinerary. If time allows, consider camping overnight at Labobo Village to immerse yourself in the serene night of the mountains. At Dajing Leisure Farm, you can experience unique indigo dyeing workshops. Both of these sites offer guided tours and explanations to help you understand local nature and culture, embarking on a relaxing yet educational journey. - Introduction to the Danshui Ancient Trail - The Tamsui-Kavalan Trail, also known as the Danshui Ancient Trail, embodies the resilience of ancestors through indigenous hunting, sea passage, trade, and other footprints. It served as the route during the Qing Dynasty connecting the northern "Danshui Hall" in the west to the eastern "Kavalan Hall." It can be divided into three main networks: northern, central, and southern. Keelung Nuanwan is where the northern and central routes begin. To honor the spirit of the original cultural paths, the route has been systematically planned by reviewing literature, cartographic data, interviews, and considering aspects like history, cultural landscapes, recreational systems, and safety, thereby recreating the long-standing Danshui Ancient Trail.
