Duxing Ten Villages Introduction
Upon seeing the prominent replica of the "Never Forget in Ju" stele, you have arrived at the oldest military dependents' village in Taiwan—Duxing Ten Village. The wooden Japanese-style dormitories have been renovated and transformed into a cultural and creative park, where local artists have created various installations, giving each corner a charming character. The park also features nostalgic grocery stores, retro inns, and light meal cafes, becoming a beloved attraction for the public. Duxing Ten Village was originally the dormitory for the commander of the fortress in Penghu and the officers of the Makung Heavy Artillery Battalion during the Japanese rule. After World War II, it was taken over by the Kuomintang government and converted into military dependents' dormitories for the Penghu Defense Command, and was named "Duxing Ten Village." This village combines historical culture with human geography. In 2007, the Penghu County government designated it as a historical building to ensure the sustainable transmission of the military village culture, and planned it as a "specific area for military village style," becoming the current "Duxing Ten Village Cultural Preservation Park." Today, Duxing Ten Village is the only well-preserved group of Japanese-style dormitories left in Penghu. The renovated wooden buildings serve different purposes, such as a bookstore utilizing the revitalized space, and the former residences of singers Pan Anbang, famous for his song "Grandma’s Penghu Bay," and Zhang Yusheng, where visitors can listen to their memorable music and admire their growth and musical creations.
