Xinjiyang Village Introduction

Jiayang Tribe is an Atayal indigenous tribe that originally dwelled in the Jiayang alluvial fan. After the construction of the Deji Reservoir, the area was designated as a water catchment zone unsuitable for habitation, leading the Atayal people to relocate to the slopes on the opposite bank, forming the new Jiayang Tribe we see today. With the repair of the Central Cross-Island Highway, the Taroko National Park also promotes in-depth experience activities at the new Jiayang Tribe, allowing the public to participate and learn about Atayal culture. The unique characteristic of the new Jiayang Tribe is its preservation of Atayal traditions and skills. Males learn to hunt in their teenage years, while females must learn weaving to pass the rites of passage for facial tattoo recognition. Visitors can participate in activities such as archery, trap making, weaving, and vegetable planting; completing these can earn them a facial tattoo sticker, symbolizing recognition by the Atayal tribe.
