Yunlin Memory Cool Introduction
~As a temporal gateway connecting the past, present, and future through memory, it opens up the preserved historical memories of Yunlin, establishing cultural confidence in Yunlin.~ Yunlin Memories Cool, originally known as the Tainan District Court Huwei Branch Office, along with the residence of the branch office chief behind it, forms a complete land administration system architectural complex. Completed in 1937 (Showa 12), it served as a branch of the Tainan District Court, specifically handling judicial matters in the Huwei area. The architectural features include: the popular hybrid architectural style of the time, and typical characteristics of government buildings from the Japanese colonial period, with a simple and solemn exterior design. This building reflects the development of the制度 during the Japanese colonial period and the establishment of local institutions. At that time, in order to strengthen the efficiency of local administration, the Tainan District Court established branch offices (subordinate offices) in various locations, and the Huwei Branch Office was one of them. In early 2018, it was leased and operated by the Taiwan Public Welfare CEO Association, focusing on providing dining, event planning, venue rental, and in-depth cultural tourism services, and it was selected in the Ministry of Culture's "2021 Historic Building Management and Maintenance Evaluation." The name of the hall, "Memory," reflects that Yunlin has many local cultural legends and stories. These stories or events are seldom documented in text and most must be collected through interviews with elders or in-depth field surveys. Because this information exists in people’s memories, it is specially named "Yunlin Memories" to represent the cultural connotation, spirit, and operational direction of the hall. "Cool," which is homophonic with the popular term "酷," not only indicates that "Yunlin Memories" is a worthwhile endeavor but also highlights that the hall offers refreshing ice products. It is hoped that people can not only come to see exhibitions and hear stories but also enjoy safe and delicious meals and ice products here. Yunlin Memories Cool has now become an important cultural base for the collection and utilization of Yunlin's cultural and historical memories.
