Wood Kiln Introduction
Passing through the tranquil local temple and circling around the century-old camphor tree and the coexisting soft persimmon tree, you will find the famous pottery studio "Mud Oven" in the area of Zaoqiao. Established for 22 years, Mud Oven is not just a rural pottery workshop; it has actively promoted pottery culture and education over the years. The owner, Xu Lianbin, has been exposed to pottery from a young age and has studied under masters Chen Huantang, Li Chunxiong, Xu Qixuan, and Cai Junwei, with his pottery works winning numerous awards in competitions. To help the public gain a deeper understanding of "the beauty of pottery," Mud Oven has planned hand-throwing pottery classes where visitors can enjoy the fun of making pottery themselves. Additionally, on the second floor, the "Art Exhibition Hall" features a variety of exquisitely crafted pottery creations, including teapots, flower vases, urns, bottles, jars, and plates, with the creative glaze colors particularly impressive. Mud Oven customizes exquisite crystalline glazes and flowing glazes as pottery gifts for institutions, schools, and individuals, and can fire pottery bottles with client-specified inscriptions or designs, suitable for both collection and gift-giving, making it worthwhile to visit and experience pottery here. In recent years, under the strong promotion of the Hakka Affairs Council, the image of the Tung flower has become synonymous with the Hakka region. Mud Oven actively applies the Tung flower motif to various daily pottery items, including elegantly colored washbasins, shallow plates filled with colorful Tung flowers, and teacups and dishes adorned with specks of May snow, all of which are stunning. Due to its insistence on hand-throwing techniques, these Tung flower pottery pieces feature simple and understated shapes and colors, making them visually appealing and fully reflecting the graceful and delicate character of the Tung flower. In the past three years, Mud Oven's Tung flower tableware set (including bowls, bone plates, water cups, vegetable plates, rice bowls, and large platters) has been certified by the Miaoli County International Cultural and Tourism Bureau.
