Wooden Kiln Introduction
Passing through the tranquil local temple and around the century-old camphor tree, you will find the renowned pottery studio "Wood Kiln" in Zaoqiao. Operating for 22 years, Wood Kiln is not just a rural pottery workshop; over the years, it has actively promoted pottery cultural education while creating artworks. The owner, Xu Lianbin, has been immersed in pottery since childhood and has learned from renowned teachers such as Chen Huan-tang, Li Chun-hsiung, Xu Qi-xuan, and Cai Jun-wei. His pottery works have received accolades in various competitions. To help the public gain a deeper understanding of the "beauty of pottery," Wood Kiln has planned hand-throwing and pottery classrooms, allowing visitors to enjoy the fun of making pottery by hand. Furthermore, on the second floor in the "Exhibition Hall," you can admire numerous intricately crafted pottery creations, including tea sets, flower vases, urns, bottles, jars, and dishes, with particularly impressive creative glaze colors. Wood Kiln customizes exquisite crystal glaze and flowing glaze pottery gifts for organizations, schools, and individuals, and can produce pottery bottles with customer-specified greetings or designs, making them suitable for collection and gifting. In recent years, with strong promotion from the Hakka Affairs Council, the imagery of the flowering paulownia tree has become synonymous with Hakka culture. Wood Kiln actively applies this imagery to various lifestyle pottery items, including elegant-colored basins, shallow plates filled with colorful paulownia flowers, and tea cups and saucers adorned with speckles of the "May Snow." These hand-thrown pottery pieces feature simple and understated shapes and colors, reflecting the gentle and delicate nature of the paulownia flowers. Over the past three years, Wood Kiln's collection of paulownia-themed tableware (bowls, bone dishes, water cups, serving plates, rice bowls, and large platters) has even been certified by the Miaoli County International Cultural and Tourism Bureau.
