Mingde Reservoir Scenic Area Introduction
Mingde Reservoir is a dam built utilizing the Shitan River to create a gorge through the Bajiaokeng Mountain Range. Surrounded by mountains, the expansive and clear lake reflects the hills, creating a beautiful scene of verdant elegance. It is a famous tourist attraction in Miaoli. Nestled in the lake of Mingde Reservoir is Rixin Island, which is surrounded by water and has external access via the No. 1 City Bridge and the No. 2 Suspension Bridge. Walking on the suspension bridge allows for a view of the lake and the beauty of the surrounding mountains, especially when mist blankets the lake, creating an ethereal landscape that resembles an ink wash painting. On the small island of Mingde Reservoir, there is a famous century-old temple called Yongchun Temple. Built in 1847, it was originally named "Haitang Temple," and was renamed "Yongchun Temple" in the tenth year of the Xianfeng era (1860). The platform in front of the temple offers a view of the Ming Lake Su Causeway, and following the trail beside the temple leads to the approximately 400-meter-long Ming Lake Su Causeway Trail. Both sides of the trail are lined with various plants, such as Metasequoia, weeping willows, and mountain cherry trees, creating a picturesque setting that often attracts many visitors to spend their afternoons here.
