Yingcai Academy Introduction
Yingcai Academy (formerly known as Minnan Academy) covers an area of 9,270 square meters (approximately 3,000 ping) with a building area of 1,387 square meters (approximately 420 ping). The academy's design and planning draw inspiration from Minnan architectural vocabulary as well as the spirit of various local academies, adhering to principles of following ancient traditions in a creative manner. For instance, traditional geographic and architectural dimensions follow the principle of ancient preservation, while the structure and exterior of the building adopt a principle of imitation. The literary intent of water pools, bridges, and garden landscapes expresses the principle of creativity. Regarding sustainable management, it aims to center on cultural and classical inheritance, focusing on artistic activities that relate to history, arts, culture, and the well-being of the mind and spirit, transforming into a "living historical building, a living heritage site." By integrating local educational resources from the nearby Qiaotou and Houlung Townships, the Minnan-style academy is designed to serve functions such as lectures, temple worship, and educational activities. Internally, it includes the Wenchang Temple, Dacheng Hall, lecture hall, static and dynamic exhibition areas, and open spaces, emphasizing Minnan cultural characteristics. It aims to create a local education museum reflecting Minnan culture, integrated with ecological and sustainable park design, and provides a high-quality environment for learning, leisure, ecology, environmental protection, and education. As the ancient saying goes, "Being by the stream evokes distant thoughts," Yingcai Academy is situated by the clear waters of the Beishi River. Visitors to the academy first wander down the creekside path to calm their minds, overlook the reflection of the arch bridge and white clouds in the water pool, then walk on the aromatic avenue bridge to appreciate the beauty of the red-tiled, white-walled academy architecture. Upon entering the gatehouse and stepping into the serene courtyard of the academy, the worldly hustle seems miles away, and the clear sounds of students reading echo in the air—this is the cultural atmosphere that Yingcai Academy offers its visitors, as envisioned by the Miaoli County Government.
