Yuanlin Xingxian Academy Introduction
The former Xianxian Academy, a county-designated historic site, was originally named "Wenchang Emperor Temple," dedicated to the worship of the Wenchang Emperor, and has a history of nearly two hundred years. The "Wenchang Emperor Temple" was established in the 12th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1807) and served as a local academy in ancient times. During its initial period, it housed the Xianxian Society, providing a place for scholars from the Yuanlin area to form associations and foster camaraderie focused on diligence and community. The academy features a dual-entry architectural layout, providing simple yet functional teaching and living spaces. Its structure includes a main hall, rear hall, side rooms, flower hall, and sacred pavilion. The design of the main hall is simple and unadorned, characterized by a relatively rare dual-gabled roof framework. Among the significant artifacts in the academy is the Imperial Road Stone, also known as the "Dragon Steps," which is intricately carved from granite with cloud-dragon patterns that exude a sense of spirit amidst its simplicity, showcasing an ancient yet detailed form.
