Yuanlin Xingxian Academy Introduction
The former Xunxian Academy, a designated historic site by the county, was originally named "Wenchang Dijun Temple," dedicated to Wenchang Dijun, and has a history of nearly two hundred years. The "Wenchang Dijun Temple" was established in the 12th year of the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty (1807) and served as a local school. During its early period, it housed the Xunxian Society for community gatherings among scholars from the Yanlin area, fostering diligence and camaraderie. The academy features a double-entry architectural style, providing simple teaching and living spaces. Its structure includes the main hall, rear hall, side rooms, flower hall, and the Sacred Respect Pavilion. The main hall has a simple and unadorned structure, characterized by the relatively rare double linked gable roof. Among the important cultural relics in the academy is the Royal Stone, also known as the "Dragon Steps." The craftsmanship of the Dragon Steps is exquisite, sculpted from granite with a dragon design that conveys a sense of spirituality, combining an ancient form with intricate detailing.
