Yuanlin Xingxian Academy Introduction
The former school, Xingxian Academy, a county-designated historical site, was originally named "Wenchang Dijun Temple," dedicated to Wenchang Dijun, and has a history of nearly two hundred years. The "Wenchang Dijun Temple" was established in the 12th year of the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (1807 AD) and served as a school for the local community. In its early days, it included the Xingxian Society, which provided a space for scholars in the Yuanlin area to form friendships and engage in community activities based on dedication and collegiality. Xingxian Academy features a courtyard-style architectural layout with a simple and practical teaching and living space. The architectural structure includes the main hall, back hall, side rooms, flower hall, and the Jing Sheng Pavilion. The main hall's structure is straightforward and unadorned, representing a relatively rare dual-gable roof design. Important artifacts within the academy include the Imperial Path Stone, also known as the "Dragon Steps." The craftsmanship of the Dragon Steps is exquisite, carved from granite with cloud and dragon patterns. There is a sense of spirituality in its rustic design, which is both ancient yet delicately detailed.
