Hua Yu, Hua Yu Lighthouse Introduction
Hua Yu is located to the southwest of Wang An Island and is the westernmost island of Penghu County, as well as the furthest west in all of Taiwan, with a highest point of about 53 meters. The topography of Hua Yu is similar to that of other islands in Penghu, but its geology is different; while other islands are mainly composed of basalt, the rocks that make up Hua Yu are primarily andesite, formed between 90 million and 50 million years ago, making it the oldest island in the Penghu archipelago. Over a long period of weathering, it has carved out different rock landscapes. During low tide, on the southeast side of Hua Yu, one can see the legendary "Fairy Footprints," specifically the left foot rock, which corresponds with the right foot of Tiantai Mountain on Wang An Island. The island also features various rock formations such as the Couple Stone (Lovers Stone), Stone Guanyin, Stone Monkey, and Old Man Stone. At the top of Hua Yu, the Hua Yu Lighthouse stands as the main landmark nearby; it was built during the Japanese occupation due to its military significance and completed in the 14th year of Showa (1939). The lighthouse is made of reinforced concrete in a white circular structure, standing 12.5 meters tall, and is Taiwan's westernmost lighthouse. It is currently equipped with a fourth-class flashing light, flashing white light once every 5 seconds, with a light intensity of 1600 candlepower, and is remotely managed. Recommended stay time: 7 hours or overnight.
