Hua Yu, Hua Yu Lighthouse Introduction
Hua Island is located to the south-southwest of Wang'an Island, making it the westernmost island of Penghu County and the extreme west of Taiwan, with a highest point of about 53 meters. The terrain of Hua Island is similar to that of other islands in Penghu, but its geology is different; while other islands are primarily composed of basalt, the rocks making up Hua Island are mainly andesite, formed between 90 million and 50 million years ago, making it the oldest island in the Penghu archipelago. Over long periods of weathering, it has created various rock landscapes. During low tide, on the southeast side of Hua Island, one can see the legendary "Immortal Footprint" of the left foot on the coastal erosion rocks, which corresponds to the right foot on Tiantai Mountain of Wang'an Island. The island is also home to various rock formations such as the Couple Stone (Lover's Stone), Stone Guanyin, Stone Monkey, and Old Man Stone. At the summit of Hua Island stands the Hua Island Lighthouse, the main landmark near Hua Island. Built during the Japanese era due to its military significance, it was completed in Shōwa 14 (1939) and features a white circular structure made of reinforced concrete. The tower is 12.5 meters tall, making it the westernmost lighthouse in Taiwan. It is currently equipped with a fourth-order flashing light that flashes a white light every 5 seconds, with a luminosity of 1,600 candlepower, and is managed remotely. [Recommended stay time] 7 hours or overnight.
