Yuan Mountain Hiking Trail Introduction
Yuan Mountain is located adjacent to the west side of Sanxia Old Street. The mountain's name is derived from its resemblance to a soaring raptor. Yuan Mountain overlooks Yingge Rock on the northern bank of the Dahan River, and while traveling on National Highway No. 3, the two mountains stand like gate pillars welcoming visitors into New Taipei City. According to local legend, the military of Cheng Cheng-kung (Koxinga) encountered two strange birds here, and Cheng ordered his troops to attack them with a long-barreled cannon. After the two strange birds were shot down, they transformed into today's Yingge Rock and Yuan Mountain. Yuan Mountain stands majestically to the south of the Dahan River alluvial plain, offering excellent views, making it a popular hiking destination in Sanxia. On Yuan Mountain, there is a Peace Bell built in 1985, which was initiated by Chang Hsiu-feng, the then mayor of Sanxia, along with local residents to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration. It was the largest bronze bell in the nation at that time, symbolizing the noble ideals of humanity's pursuit of peace, carrying significant historical meaning. The Yuan Mountain Trail is of moderate difficulty, suitable for all ages, with several small and beautiful spots along the way, such as the Changchun Garden Firefly Trail and the Yuan Mountain Colorful Wall. The sides of the trail are lined with Tung trees, making it a great place for hiking and exploration. At an elevation of 291 meters, Yuan Mountain features pavilions, seating areas, and lush vegetation, serving as a recreational garden for residents of Sanxia. On weekends, it attracts many tourists. Arriving at Yuan Mountain at dusk, one can overlook the vast Dahan River alluvial plain, enjoying the views of the lights from Sanxia, Yingge, and Bade areas. At night, the lights of National Highway No. 3 twinkle like stars on the ground, creating a beautiful scenery. On clear nights, the skyline of Taipei City can even be seen from dozens of kilometers away, becoming more stunning as the night deepens.
