Qingtang Old Street (Jinguashi Old Street) Introduction
Qitang Old Street, located above the Gold Museum, was the commercial center for early miners' livelihoods. It was established during the Japanese occupation as a settlement for Taiwanese to lease land from Japanese mining companies. Situated in the Jinguashi Copper Mine area, it is also known as "Jinguashi Ginza" or "Jinguashi Old Street." This settlement was built along the slopes of the mountain, and some residents still live here. Although it is also a mountain town, it does not have the strong commercial atmosphere found in Jiufen Old Street, and there are fewer tourists, allowing it to retain the original appearance of a small town in the mountains. Qitang Old Street and Jiufen Old Street are both mountain towns that thrived as commercial centers due to mining. With the decline of the mining industry and population outflow, visitors can explore the unique Japanese-style architecture along the street or wander through the small paths of the mountain town, experiencing the nostalgic charm of the area. Currently, scattered shops such as grocery stores and cafes can still be seen along the sides of the street. Although it no longer boasts the grandeur of the past, one can enjoy a peaceful walk along the streets and appreciate the tranquil beauty that differs from Jiufen.
