Tunghai University - Luce Memorial Chapel Introduction

The Luce Memorial Chapel at Tunghai University is a symbol of faith for the people of Tunghai, located in the center of the campus, connecting the teaching area to the west and the dormitory area to the east. In the early days, before the trees were dense, the Luce Memorial Chapel was visible from any corner of the campus. Consequently, it became the most important spiritual marker for the people of Tunghai, a masterpiece by renowned Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei. The chapel is constructed with four three-dimensional curved panels, resembling an inverted ship's hull, with a shape that is smaller at the top and larger at the bottom, giving a sense of stability. Viewed from the front or at a forty-five-degree angle, the chapel's "curvilinear" beauty is best expressed. Every year at Christmas, the Luce Memorial Chapel serves as an important venue for celebration. The internship farm, located within Tunghai University, raises about 100 high-quality Dutch-bred dairy cows, allowing visitors to observe the daily lives of the cows up close. It also features the Tunghai University Dairy Shop, selling various dairy products such as rich fresh milk, yogurt, and dairy ice cream, which are popular among everyone. Additionally, the campus horse arena offers diverse internship courses and equestrian clubs, allowing the general public to interact closely with the horses.
