Tunghai University Luce Memorial Chapel Introduction
Arriving at the lush Tunghai University, walking along Yangong Road or choosing any patch of grass to sit down and enjoy the tranquil time, basking in the sunlight, blending with the forests, grass, cicadas, and birds, one can quietly feel the gifts of nature. Life can be this simple and leisurely. The Luce Memorial Chapel at Tunghai University symbolizes the faith of the people here, located at the heart of the campus, connecting the teaching area to the west and the dormitory area to the east. In the early days, before the trees became dense, the chapel was visible from any part of the campus, making it an essential spiritual landmark for the community, designed by the renowned Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei. The chapel is constructed with four panels of three-dimensional curved surfaces, resembling an inverted ship's hull, with a shape that narrows at the top and widens at the bottom, giving a sense of stability. Viewing it from the front or at a 45-degree angle best showcases the “curvilinear” beauty of the Luce Memorial Chapel. Every Christmas, the chapel is an important venue for celebrations. The on-campus practical farm at Tunghai University raises about 100 excellent Dutch-bred dairy cows, allowing visitors to observe the daily life of the dairy cows up close. It also features the Tunghai University Dairy Shack, selling various dairy products, including rich milk, yogurt, and milk ice cream, which are loved by many. Additionally, the campus equestrian center offers diverse internship courses and equestrian clubs, allowing the public to interact closely with the horses. After enjoying the beautiful campus scenery and elegant chapel, nearby Tunghai Villa, Art Street, and the Zhongke shopping district are great places to visit, filled with various delicious snacks, creative products, and boutiques, ensuring a rich and satisfying travel experience throughout the day.
