Ruan Family Ancestral House (Jin De Xing Drugstore) Introduction
The Ruan Family Ancient House, located on Jingliao Old Street, is known locally as "Jin De Xing Pharmacy." It is a treasure listed as a municipal designated historic site and follows a street house architectural style. Built during the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong period (1734-1795), it is characterized by its unique loft form, which is quite rare in Taiwan. The entire ancient house is constructed of wood, using dovetail joints from Fujian's cedar, with no nails or dowels in sight, and it retains an antique traditional Chinese medicine cabinet. Despite undergoing changes through three families over more than two centuries, the elegance of the ancient house can still be faintly perceived. The current owner, Mr. Ruan Qi, has inherited and managed the ancient house for over fifty years and holds deep feelings for this old building. Whenever visitors come, he warmly welcomes them inside for a tour and passionately shares the legendary stories of the Ruan Family Ancient House, making guests feel as if they have traveled back in time.
