Yanshui River Estuary Wetland Introduction

This wetland is located at the mouth of the Yanshui River, bordered to the north by the Sicao Wetland A2 area, extending from the northern embankment of the Yanshui River to the Anping levee in the south, with the Taiwan Provincial Highway 17 and the Dagang Observation Bridge serving as the eastern boundary, and the western sea area extending to the 6-meter isobath. The total area is 635 hectares. In recent years, the Intermediate Egret has been breeding in the southwestern coastal areas of Taiwan, establishing new populations; at the mangrove area of the Yanshui River mouth in Tainan City, nesting of the Great Egret and Intermediate Egret has also been observed. Additionally, Volume 58 of the Taiwan Museum Journal reported the collection of a new species of bivalve, the Taiwanese Petal Clam, at this river mouth. The ecological resources within include endangered species: the Eastern Crested Ibis and the Black-faced Spoonbill; precious and rare species: the Marsh Harrier, the Fish Eagle, the Red-footed Falcon, the Little Tern, and the Taiwan Barbet; and species that require conservation: the Red-tailed Shrike and the Bulbophyllum.
