Anping Small Fort Introduction

Built in the 20th year of the Daoguang era (1840 AD) during the Opium War, it was one of the coastal defense measures constructed by the Qing military in Taiwan to resist the British forces. The structure of the fortress is divided into two parts: the main body and the city wall stone embankment. The embankment extends north and south in a narrow shape, while the main body of the fortress is located next to the Water Pool Park and is made of granite. The northern stone embankment is built with volcanic rock and rammed earth, featuring gun ports and a barricade to prevent water entry. It is designated as a city historic site, and unlike the Western-style modern forts such as the Yiguan Golden Fortress, it represents the late period of the most well-preserved traditional Chinese fortifications.
