Wang'an Wenheng Temple Introduction
Ouwang Wenheng Temple is dedicated to the worship of Guan Sheng Di Jun (Guan Yu). The original statue was brought by the Zheng family's ancestors who came to Taiwan with Koxinga during the Zheng period. Initially, it was enshrined within a residential building, and as its popularity grew, a temple was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty. The current appearance of the temple was renovated in 1971. Since the main deity is Guan Yu, many of the stone carvings inside the temple depict stories from the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," such as "Guan Yu Slays Meng Tan" (where Meng Tan is the second general in the tale of "Crossing Five Passes and Slaying Six Generals"), "Reading the Spring and Autumn Annals at Night," and "Flooding the Seven Armies." In addition to the stone carvings, the temple’s walls are adorned with cut ceramic decorations, crafted by the "National Treasure" Wang Bao-yuan. On the wall of the Wenchang Shrine added during the Guangxu period, there is a mural titled "Four Readings" by award-winning artist Pan Li-shui. Although the temple's space is not large, the density of its artistic collections is comparable to that of other temples.
