Beitou Plains Indigenous Culture Park Introduction
The park is located in the Jiali area of Tainan (historically known as the Xiaolangshe). The term "Beitou" means "shaman" in the Pingpu ancient language, while "Yang" refers to a pastoral place suitable for habitation with water and grass. This area has long been associated with the legend of the Feifan, which tells of a Pingpu person who ran faster than a horse and even raced against one before the Qianlong Emperor, winning the race and gaining the emperor's favor. He and his son were honored to meet the emperor three times, which relates to the "Cheng Tianyu" at the current Feifan Cemetery. The gravestone bears the inscription "Father and son met the emperor three times," and it is currently the longest-standing Pingpu cemetery in Taiwan, with a history of over 240 years.
