Zhang's Ancestral House in Tong'an Introduction
The Zhang Family Ancestral House, located in Tong'an Village, Ancuo Li, Ziqiang District, was built during the Qing Dynasty and is the best-preserved Hokkien-style Sanheyuan residence in Ziqiang District. Most residents of Tong'an Village are descendants of immigrants from Tong'an, Fujian during the Ming Cheng period, who settled in the fertile Ziqiang Plain. The Zhang family's ancestral home, a "Jiupao Wu" Sanheyuan, signifies the family's wealth and prosperity. The ancestral house features a relatively rare two-section structure made of red tiles and red bricks, complete with decorative elements such as dragon protectors. The roof's ridge and bird-foot designs, as well as the beautiful window details and color decorations, reflect the owner's refined lifestyle and taste from years past. The inscription "Mei Kui" on the main hall’s lintel and the antique lighting fixtures within evoke a sense of historical charm.
