Zhang Family Ancestral House in Tong'an Introduction
The Zhang Family Ancestral Hall, located in Tong'an Village, Ancuo Li, Ziqiang District, was built during the Qing Dynasty and is the best-preserved traditional Fujian-style Sanheyuan (three-part courtyard) residence in Ziqiang District. Most residents of Tong'an Village are immigrants from Tong'an, Fujian during the Ming-Zheng period, who settled in the fertile Ziqiang Plain. The Zhang family's ancestral hall, with its "Jiu Bao Wu" Sanheyuan structure, represents the family's wealth and prosperity. This ancestral hall features the relatively rare two-section structure with red tiles and red brick, complete with extended eaves and dragon guardians. The elegantly designed roof features horseback ridges, bird stands, and floral window patterns, while the main hall's lintel is inscribed with the characters "Mei Kui". The antique light fixtures in the hall tell stories of historical charm. The intricate wooden carvings and color decorations provide insight into the luxurious lifestyle and refined taste of the ancestral hall's original owners.
