Tian Gong Kai Wu - R23 Qiaotou Station Introduction
In line with the Kaohsiung MRT's theme of "Making Friends with the World through Art," the Ciaotou Station commissioned Dr. Zhu Bang-hsiung from Meinong Pottery to create a public art ceramic wall. This massive ceramic wall, located at Exit 2, measures nine meters in width and twelve meters in height and is titled "Tian Gong Kai Wu." The artwork is composed of 1,311 ceramic plates, using over 70 tons of clay. The central geometric shape symbolizes the abstract consciousness of urban construction, while the upper and lower ends represent the land that nurtures sugarcane. Trains carrying sugarcane traverse the Ciaotou area, parting the clouds and marking the beginning of Taiwan's modernization era. "Tian Gong Kai Wu" is a stunning masterpiece, a tribute by the artist to the land, and an ode to the beauty of Ciaotou.
