Chunglin Wenlin Pavilion Introduction
Wenlin Pavilion is dedicated to the Three Benefactors and Wenchang Dijun. It is a historic temple with a long history, attracting numerous devotees and thriving incense offerings. It is not only one of the most famous temples in the Qionglin area but also an important early educational institution. Wenlin Pavilion was established during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty by the scholar Deng Zhaoxiong as a venue for nurturing talents in the local area. During the Guangxu period, it was renamed as the "Wenlin Society," serving as a place for literary gatherings among scholars from the headstream of the Qingshui River. Later, the educational institution was transformed into a temple named "Wenlin Pavilion," also known as the Wen Temple. In 1932 (the 21st year of the Republic of China), it was reconstructed, changing the original earthen-walled temple into a red brick and glazed tile building. The current structure was rebuilt around 1991 (the 80th year of the Republic of China). Every year on September 28, which marks Confucius' birthday, the Wenlin Pavilion holds its most grand sacrificial ceremony, celebrating with large events and attracting numerous worshippers and devotees.
