New Town Xinfeng Temple Introduction
Established during the Daoguang period, Xinfeng Temple is dedicated to the Three Mountains King and has always been a center of faith for the residents of the villages of Xincheng, Baodou, and Shenjing in Baoshan Township. The most lively time at Xinfeng Temple is during the birthday celebration of the Three Mountains King, which falls on the 25th day of the 2nd, 5th, and 8th lunar months. Additionally, there is a "Castrated Chicken Contest" held on January 14th and 15th, where locals bring their home-raised chickens to compete for the biggest one, making it a major event in the area. In the early years, the lack of medical facilities and frequent epidemics led to the practice of holding religious processions for blessings on the 14th and 15th of the first lunar month at Xinfeng Temple, hoping to pass the New Year safely and to conduct the "Da Zhong Wu" activity. Today, "Da Zhong Wu" signifies the idea of "timeliness and good fortune." During the procession, the teams rest in the villages, and residents voluntarily provide delicious food for them to enjoy. This activity fosters community solidarity and promotes the spirit of sharing, cherishing blessings, and dedication among the Hakka people, making it an important event for the preservation of Hakka culture.
