Xincheng Xinfeng Temple Introduction
Established during the Daoguang era, XinFeng Palace is dedicated to the worship of the Three Mountain Kings and has always served as the faith center for XinCheng, BaoDou, and ShenJing in Baoshan Township. The most lively time for XinFeng Palace is during the birthdays of the Three Mountain Kings, which fall on the 25th day of the 2nd, 5th, and 8th months of the lunar calendar. Additionally, on January 14th and 15th, the "Cockerel Contest" is held, where residents bring their home-raised chickens to compete for the biggest one, making it a significant local event. In earlier years, due to a lack of medical care and the prevalence of epidemics, a prayer ceremony for blessings was held every year from the 14th to the 15th day of the lunar new year, centered around XinFeng Palace, hoping for safety in the new year. The current event, which takes place at noon, derives its meaning from "spirit and time are both void, a good year in winter." During the procession, the participants rest in the village, and villagers voluntarily provide food for them. This activity helps to foster community spirit and promotes the Hakka values of harmony, sharing, cherishing blessings, and dedication, making it an important activity for the preservation of Hakka culture.
