Hsincheng Xinfeng Temple Introduction

Established during the Daoguang era, Xinfeng Temple is dedicated to the Three Mountain Kings and has always been the center of faith for the areas of Xincheng, Baodou, and Shenjing in Baoshan Township. The temple is busiest during the birthdays of the Three Mountain Kings, which are celebrated on the 25th day of the 2nd, 5th, and 8th months of the lunar calendar. Additionally, on January 14 and 15, the "Capon Contest" is held, where residents bring their home-raised chickens to compete for the largest one, making it a significant local event. In the early years, medical resources were scarce, and epidemics were rampant in the area. Therefore, each year on January 14 and 15 of the lunar calendar, a parade for blessings led by Xinfeng Temple is held, hoping to safely pass through the new year and conduct the "Dazhongwu" activity. Today, "Dazhongwu" symbolizes "timely blessings for a prosperous year." During the parade, villagers voluntarily provide delicious food for the procession to enjoy while resting in the village. This activity fosters community spirit and promotes the Hakka values of sharing, cherishing blessings, and dedication, making it an essential event for the inheritance of Hakka culture.
