Xincheng Xinfeng Temple Introduction
Established during the Daoguang period, the Xinfeng Temple is dedicated to the Sanshan Kings and has long been the religious center for the communities of Xincheng, Baodou, and Shenjing in Baoshan Township. The temple is most lively during the birth of the Sanshan Kings, celebrated on the 25th day of the 2nd, 5th, and 8th months of the lunar calendar. Additionally, on January 14th and 15th, a "Cocks Fighting Contest" is held, where residents bring their own raised chickens to compete for the biggest bird, making it a significant local event. In earlier years, lacking medical services and facing widespread epidemics, a pilgrimage for blessings led by Xinfeng Temple is conducted on the 14th and 15th days of the first lunar month each year. This is done in hopes to safely pass through the new year, along with the noon blessing activity. Today, the noon blessing signifies "time is good, and the year is prosperous." When the procession rests in the village, residents spontaneously provide delicious food for the participants. This noon blessing activity aims to foster community cohesion and to promote the spirit of sharing, cherishing blessings, and giving, making it an important event for the preservation of Hakka culture.
