Taipei Old Street Introduction
The historic and charming Taiping Old Street in Douliou City, Yunlin County, features old Western-style buildings that mostly adopt Baroque architecture. Along the alleys, one can find traditional Taiwanese delicacies such as egg rice, round dumplings with sweet syrup (yuanzai bing), meatballs (rouyuan), and squid soup. The area frequently attracts foreign tourists, filled with the nostalgic atmosphere favored by older generations. Taiping Old Street is located on Taiping Road in Douliou City, stretching approximately 600 meters. Taiping Road has always been the main shopping street in Douliou. The building designs on the old street predominantly reflect Baroque style and have a history of over 90 years since their establishment during the Japanese colonial period. Each building is two stories high, with some featuring family surnames engraved on the walls and beautiful, lifelike decorative carvings, representing not only the aesthetic appeal of architectural art but also the significance of prestigious family heritage.
