Tongxin Home Introduction
The witness to the history of the sugar industry in Huwei is the Tongxin Garden, located in Huwei, Yunlin. It features the Taiwan Sugar No. 11 steam locomotive, a monument commemorating the introduction of the South African 310 sugarcane variety, and sugar-making tools available for public visits. The trees inside are mostly early Taiwanese camphor and tropical plants transplanted from Southeast Asia, recording the rise and fall of the sugar industry in Huwei while providing relief from the scorching sun of Yunlin. Tongxin Garden originally served as a recreational area for sugar mill employees and their families but has now become a popular leisure spot for local residents on weekends. The small park also houses a small train and a monument for the introduction of the South African 310 sugarcane variety, commemorating the 310 variety brought in from South Africa in the early post-war period, highlighting the connection between Tongxin Garden and the Huwei Sugar Factory.
