Jian Guo Village Introduction
The Tranquil Footprints of Life: Located in a lush and serene environment, Jianguo Veterans Village preserves the barracks converted from stables during the Japanese occupation period. The historical scars from artillery bombardments in earlier times still remain, and the unique cultural feel of the old veterans’ village has been enhanced with the addition of arts and cultural markets. Walking into this cultural heritage site feels like stepping into a drama, where one can enjoy leisurely strolls or indulge in nostalgia. In Huwei Township, Yunlin County, there exists a uniquely cultural and poetically vibrant veterans' village—"Jianguo Veterans Village." The village is fresh and tranquil, with its tree-lined surroundings reminiscent of a forest park. Additionally, it features veterans' quarters converted from stables during the Japanese era and historical traces from nearby artillery shelling, embodying the footprints of countless generations of life. "Jianguo Veterans Village" originated during World War II when Huwei was selected as a military base for the Navy Air Force in 1938. In 1943, faced with urgent wartime situations, the Japanese military established "Jianguo Veterans Village" as a combat base and trained the Kamikaze pilots there. After Japan's defeat, the Nationalist government relocated to Taiwan and transformed this area into a military stronghold.
