JianGuo Military Dependants' Village Introduction
Quiet Footprints of Life: The JianKuo Veteran Village, with its lush greenery and tranquil environment, has preserved the barracks transformed from stables during the Japanese colonial period. The historical marks from early artillery shelling still remain, and with the addition of art and literature markets, walking into this cultural heritage settlement feels like entering an idol drama, where one can indulge in exploration and nostalgia. In Huwei Township, Yunlin County, there exists a unique and poetically rich veteran village—"JianKuo Veteran Village." The village offers a fresh and serene environment, shaded by trees as if one is in a forest park. Additionally, it features barracks converted from stables during the Japanese occupation and historical traces of artillery shelling nearby, showing countless generations of lifestyle footprints. The "JianKuo Veteran Village" originated during World War II in 1938 when Huwei was selected as a military base for the Navy Air Force. In 1943, due to urgent war conditions, the Japanese military established the "JianKuo Veteran Village" as a combat base for training Kamikaze pilots. After Japan's defeat, the Nationalist government relocated to Taiwan and utilized this area as a military fortress.
