Tree Fire Memorial Paper Museum Introduction
Since Cai Lun of the Eastern Han Dynasty used tree bark, hemp, and rags to create paper, various refined types of paper have been developed over time with technological advancements. Mr. Chen Shuhuo, the founder of Changchun Cotton Paper Factory, has been rooted in this business for decades and, feeling a sense of regret that "paper, which nurtures Chinese culture, has not been promoted in modern times," vowed to establish a paper museum. After five years of preparation, the Shuhuo Memorial Paper Museum officially opened to the public in October 1995. The first floor consists of a sales store and a handmade paper demonstration factory, selling various contemporary design-related products and periodically launching themed products. The demonstration factory simulates the handmade paper manufacturing process for visitors to understand. The second floor currently serves as an exhibition space that accepts exhibition proposals from various sectors. The third floor is a scientific experiment area about paper, where parents and children can learn about paper through interactive activities and sensory experiences. The fourth floor is a paper-making experience area where everyone can make their own sheet of paper to take home. This area also promotes recycled paper and environmental education, encouraging the conservation of Earth’s resources.
