Tree Fire Memorial Paper Museum Introduction

Since the Eastern Han dynasty when Cai Lun used tree bark, hemp, and rags to make paper, the technology has evolved, leading to the development of various refined types of paper. Mr. Chen Shuhua, the founder of Changchun Cotton Paper Mill, spent over a decade establishing a deep-rooted business and felt the regret that "paper, which is nurtured by Chinese culture, has not been promoted in modern times." He thus dedicated himself to establishing a paper museum. After five years of preparation, the Shuhua Memorial Paper Museum officially opened to the public in October 1995. The first floor is divided into a retail shop and a handmade paper demonstration factory, selling various contemporary design-related products and periodically launching themed items. The demonstration factory simulates the handmade paper production process for visitors to understand. The second floor is currently an exhibition space that accepts applications for exhibitions from various sectors. The third floor is a scientific experimentation area for paper, where families can learn about paper through interactive and sensory experiences. The fourth floor is a paper-making experience area, where everyone can create their own sheet of paper to take home. This area also promotes recycled paper and environmental education, encouraging the conservation of Earth’s resources.
