Zhongshan North Road Commercial District Introduction
The culture of the Tiaotong on Zhongshan North Road originates from the Japanese colonial period. The various Japanese-style snack shops and bars in the area are popular spots for many Japanese expatriates and tourists, offering a unique exotic atmosphere that has persisted since the colonial era, closely intertwined with Taiwan's history. To this day, Tiaotong retains a strong Oriental ambiance, featuring not only izakayas and kaiseki restaurants but also many Japanese home-style dishes such as stewed potatoes with meat, oden, unagi rice, and grilled meats, all of which evoke the flavors of old Tokyo. The collection of Taiwanese-Japanese cuisine here also reflects the evolution of Taiwan’s food culture from past to present, with Qitiaotong recognized as the birthplace of Taiwan's barbecue culture.
