Zhongshan North Road Shopping District Introduction
The culture of Tiao Tong on Zhongshan North Road originates from the Japanese colonial period. The various Japanese-style snack shops and bars within the area are popular among many Japanese expatriates and tourists, exuding an exotic charm that continues from the colonial era, creating an atmosphere closely tied to Taiwan's history. To this day, Tiao Tong retains a strong Eastern flair, featuring not only izakayas and kaiseki restaurants but also many Japanese home-cooked dishes such as braised pork with potatoes, oden, eel rice, and grilled meat, filling the alleys with the flavors of old Tokyo. The collection of Taiwanese-Japanese cuisine here also reflects the evolution of Taiwan's dining culture from past to present, with Qitiao Tong being the birthplace of Taiwan's BBQ culture.
