Zhongshan North Road Shopping District Introduction
The cultural heritage of the alleys along Zhongshan North Road dates back to the Japanese colonial period. The various Japanese snack bars and pubs in the area are favored by many Japanese expatriates and tourists, offering an exotic atmosphere that has persisted since that era, closely intertwined with Taiwan's history. To this day, the alleys maintain a strong Eastern ambiance, featuring not only izakayas and kaiseki restaurants but also many Japanese home-cooked dishes such as braised pork with potatoes, oden, unagi rice, and grilled meat. The deep alleyways waft with the flavors of old Tokyo. The Japanese-Taiwanese culinary offerings found here also reflect the evolution of Taiwan's food culture from the past to the present; for example, Qitiao Street is known as the birthplace of Taiwan's grilled meat culture.
