Taipei Main Station Introduction

Taipei Main Station (known as Taipei Station by Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taipei Metro) is located in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei City, Taiwan. It is an underground railway station that serves the Taiwan Railways Administration, Taiwan High Speed Rail, and Taipei Metro, and is a transfer station for the Taipei Metro’s Bannan Line and Tamsui-Xinyi Line. Not only is it the key transportation hub of northern Taiwan, but it is also the largest railway station in Taiwan in terms of architectural scale and passenger volume, with more than 500,000 passenger transfers daily, ranking 25th worldwide in total usage. Taipei Main Station was established on July 5, 1891, and after multiple relocations and renovations, the current station building was opened on September 2, 1989. The headquarters of the Taiwan Railways Administration is also located here, and with the addition of the metro and high-speed rail, it has formed a vast underground shopping area. Surrounding the station is a commercial hub filled with offices and cram schools, and when connected to facilities such as Taipei Bus Station, Metro Beimen Station, Taipei Airport MRT Station, and Huashan Creative Park, the area designated as "Taipei Main Station specific area" can reach an area of 46.31 hectares. Additionally, Taipei Main Station is often referred to as "Taipei Railway Station," while in Taiwanese Hokkien it is called "Taipei Huoche Tou" or "Taipei Chariot," and younger generations often simply call it "Beiche."
