Taipei Railway Station Introduction

Taipei Main Station (known as Taipei Station on Taiwan High-Speed Rail and Taipei Metro) is located in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei City, Taiwan. It is an underground railway station that combines the operations of the Taiwan Railways Administration, Taiwan High-Speed Rail, and Taipei Metro. It serves as an interchange station for the Taipei Metro's Bannan Line and Tamsui-Xinyi Line. Not only is it the primary transportation hub in northern Taiwan, but it is also the largest railway station in Taiwan in terms of building scale and passenger volume, with over 500,000 passengers transferring daily, ranking 25th in total usage worldwide. Taipei Main Station was established on July 5, 1891, and after several relocations and renovations, the current structure was opened on September 2, 1989. The headquarters of the Taiwan Railways Administration is also located here. With the integration of the metro and high-speed rail, a vast underground shopping district has been formed. The area surrounding the station features a commercial district filled with offices and cram schools. When connected to the Taipei Transfer Station, Taipei Metro's Beimen Station, Taoyuan Airport MRT's Taipei Station, and Huashan Creative Park, the designated "Taipei Main Station Area" encompasses an area of 46.31 hectares. Additionally, Taipei Main Station is often referred to as "Taipei Train Station," while in Taiwanese Hokkien it is called "Taipei Huochezhan" or "Taipei Chehead," and younger demographics commonly shorten it to "Beiche."
