Taipei Railway Station Introduction

Taipei Main Station (referred to as Taipei Station for Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taipei Metro) is located in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei City, Taiwan. It is an underground multi-modal transit station that integrates the Taiwan Railways Administration, Taiwan High Speed Rail, and Taipei Metro, serving as a major interchange for the Bannan Line and Tamsui-Xinyi Line. Not only is it the primary transportation hub in northern Taiwan, but it is also the largest railway station in Taiwan in terms of scale and passenger volume, with over 500,000 transfers per day, ranking 25th in the world for total usage. The station was established on July 5, 1891, and after multiple relocations and renovations, the current structure was opened on September 2, 1989. The headquarters of the Taiwan Railway Administration is also located here, and with the introduction of metro and high-speed rail, it has developed into an extensive underground shopping district. The area surrounding the station has a business and tutoring center, and when connected to related facilities such as Taipei Transfer Station, MRT Beimen Station, Taoyuan Airport MRT Taipei Station, and Huashan Creative Park, the total area reaches 46.31 hectares. Additionally, Taipei Main Station is often referred to as "Taipei Train Station," while in Taiwanese Hokkien it is called "Taipei Chhia Thâu" or "Taipei Chhia Tâu," and younger generations often simply call it "Beichē."
